The most original wedding table decoration idea I’ve ever seen was when my friends Mike and Alice tied the knot. Humor is often a big winner. The cress-filled pigs of Mike and Alice were a memento of the fact that they met at an agricultural event where Alice, who was a bit of a tom-boy, was helping a friend who was showing pure-bred pigs.
The first time Mike saw her, she was covered in mud and smelling of pigs as he said in his wedding speech, ”she washes up well!“ and indeed the bride was looking gorgeous, and the wedding table decorations were a big success. The guests that knew the story had great fun telling more recent friends the story behind the pigs, so the table decorations became a focal point for creating conversation.
A wedding head table decoration to set the mood
A couple whose church work was very important to them made a statement with their wedding table decorations. For their wedding, their table decoration idea, beautifully executed by the bride’s mother, was hand-made boxes in the shape of a cross. As well as a religious memento, each guest received a personal religious quotation, chosen personally for him or her by the couple and written in beautiful calligraphic handwriting.
But it was the wedding head table decoration that really caught everyone’s eye and set the mood for the event. It was a scale model of the church and made a statement very emphatically about what the couple was committed to in their future life together.
Things to remember when choosing your wedding table decorations:
- Rather than just choosing ”pretty“ decorations, try to pick ones that will have meaning to the bride and groom
- Using humor is a sure-fire winner
- Table decorations can set the mood or scene of the event
- At a wedding, the head table decoration should be large enough to be seen by all the guests.
