Home Redecorating Tips.
Redecorating a room can really blow new life into a tired room. It is amazing what even a new coat of paint can do to a room. Have a look at the room you are not completely happy with any more and decide how far you want to go with your redecorating. Do you only want to paint the walls, do you want to get new curtains, blinds and more, do you only want to chance the covering of your furniture or do you want to throw out everything and start all over?
Things you have to consider when you are thinking of redecorating your house:
- Most important here is obviously your budget. Do not try and overstretch your budget as the end result will not be satisfactory. Rather make a few well planned changes now, with plans in place to do more as your finances dictate.
- Secondly, take into account the quality of your present furnishings and other items such as curtains, binds etc. Even though you may feel like a complete chance, your furniture may be of such a good quality that it would be a total waste to replace. You’ll be surprised at what a big improvement a change in the coverings and new curtains can accomplish. So unfortunately, unless you have a lot of money, you may have to keep the furniture. Never underestimate what even only a few scatter cushions can make. This is really a point you have to give very good consideration.
- The next point may sound obvious, but it is amazing how many people, when redecorating, do not keep their lifestyle and the traffic the room has to carry into account. Make sure that all materials and furnishings you choose will be able to cope with what it has to cope with. I know this sounds obvious, but, make sure the colors are not to light if it is a room with a lot of traffic and if you still have small children. Even the floor coverings have to be suitable to what your family is going to put it through. It is amazing how many people choose carpets that are far to light. Always opt for a carpet darker than you actually feel is necessary.
- Another important thing that locks on to the previous is functionality. It is no use redecorating a room and afterwards it is impossible to be comfortable in it. Keep in mind what the room is actually going to be used for and make sure the furniture is suitable. If it is the Den and the family spends hours there watching TV and playing TV games, make sure the furniture is comfortable and covered with strong dark material. If it is a very formal ”lounge“ more attention can be given to beautiful and not such practical furniture. It still has to be comfortable though, you do not want your visitors to be uncomfortable the whole time.
If you are on a very tight budget, always give preference to simpler decorations that you can make yourself.
